The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and
Interpreters (NAATI) is the assessing authority for Translators and
Interpreters in Australia. NAATI accreditation is the only
qualification officially accepted for the profession of translation
and interpreting in Australia.
NAATI accreditation may be obtained by
- passing a NAATI test; or
- completing successfully a course of studies at an Australian
institution approved by NAATI; or
- providing evidence of specialised qualifications in
translating/interpreting obtained from a recognised training
institution overseas, or membership of recognised international
professional association.
All Australian government Translation and Interpreting (T&I)
services require translators and interpreters to be NAATI
accredited. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship
(DIAC) Skilled Occupation List specifies NAATI as the
assessing authority for translators and interpreters. NAATI
accreditation provides 60 points towards the Skilled Migration
Category. For further information on NAATI accreditation for
immigration purposes please see
