1. Why did you choose to study in Australia?

I'm from Mumbai, India, and I decided to study in Australia because I was fascinated with the country's lifestyle and scenic beauty. Everywhere you go, there will be a location to snap photographs. I first visited Australia in 2016 with my family and fell in love with both the country and its people. The locals are warm and welcoming. At that point, I made the decision that I wanted to return and learn more. Also, because it is extremely similar to my hometown, Mumbai, multicultural in nature, it allows me to engage and learn a great deal about many nationalities, interact with people and learn about their experiences. Most importantly, the top 8 universities in the world are in located in Australia, which denotes the world-class infrastructure and study facilities.

2. How was IDP able to help you?

In India, IDP is known to offer the best student services. IDP is regarded as a synonym for education in Australia. Since I had that confidence in the provider, I would say that the process moved fast and without difficulty as I diligently followed my IDP education counsellor’s instructions. My education counsellor, Ms. Shreya Kangutkar, was knowledgeable and understanding of my curiosity. She assisted me in selecting the courses that best suited to my background, and as a consequence, those universities offered me a seat, which ultimately resulted me in obtaining my student visa.

3. Are there any (major) challenges you faced?

I took a tremendous chance when I made the decision to start over in a foreign country. For this reason, I had to get myself ready to confront the challenges of a foreign place. Finding accommodation and a job were the two biggest difficulties I encountered here. Nevertheless, I was persistent. I stayed up to date with job opportunities by following the social media groups and apps, and I was able to locate a place to stay and secure a job in the due course of time. Apart from that it took me sometime to cope with the currency rate difference and the culture but eventually I got used to it as things fell in place.

4. How did you approach your job search (part-time/full-time)?

At the beginning of this journey, IDP introduced me to the IDP Student Facebook community, for which I am very grateful. I attended the career webinars that the community posted about, for new students, and they gave me excellent advice on how to prepare for interviews and modify my resume as per Australian standards. Due to that, I had the confidence to apply for the positions that were promoted in the group and elsewhere, and I eventually succeeded in landing a job with the organization itself. I urge everyone to join this Facebook group because it was a huge assistance to me when I was initially settling in the country. Additionally, I enjoy being a part of the student community because it gives me the sense of support and belonging that I need as a student.

5. What are your goals for your career in Australia?

I have always enjoyed being a marketing professional. But as marketing is a field that is constantly changing, I have seized this study opportunity to expand my knowledge and extend my horizon. It will assist me in comprehending the various methods employed all around the world, and my experience working abroad will help me develop the awareness necessary to function in a global economy. I am really anticipating the opportunities this will open for my career as a whole and am quite excited about them.

6. Is there any advice for international students?

When you first arrive in a country, you don't realise how much prettier the horizon is. But to be able to perceive the wider picture, you must successfully navigate that time with optimism and patience. It’s the chance you get to improve yourself and gain more personal independence. Being an international student opens countless opportunities because the globe is nothing more than a blank canvas on which we may paint whatever we want. Take a chance and be bold. It will undoubtedly end up being the best choice you ever made. Best wishes, to all my future student-colleagues!
