1. Why did you choose to study in Australia?

I am originally from Ghaziabad in India, and I chose study in Australia to pursue an independent life. I chose the University of Queensland as it gave me the opportunity to study with a scholarship. Another reason was that the university is ranked amongst the top 50 universities in the world.

2. How was IDP able to help you?

3. Are there any (major) challenges you faced?

Initially, there were a lot of challenges that I faced. It was very difficult to adapt to a new culture and I didn’t think I’d need to cook as much as I have had to! I found the first six months to be OK eating out every day. However, after 6 months I found it tough to continue to eat outside. I’ve had to learn how to cook ever since.

4. How did you approach your job search (part-time/full-time)?

I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Following my dream to start a business, I’ve started a Bollywood Nights Company in March 2023 that organises Bollywood Night events primarily for the Indian community.

5. What are your goals for your career in Australia?

I have big dreams and I am keen to build a unicorn business. I would like to grow my current events business. At the same time, I want to invest money in different business ventures in Australia.

6. Is there any advice for international students?

There are four recommendations for international students:

  • Choose your accommodation wisely and with due diligence

  • Improve your English communication skills before coming to Australia

  • Learn to cook before coming to Australia

  • Trust yourself and get ready for failures
