I am originally from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The reason why I chose to study in Australia is to seek better education and opportunity. 2. How was IDP able to help you?

I chose IDP because IDP is well known for its consistent support for students who are planning to study overseas. For instance, I was struggling and trying to find ways to travel and study overseas, however, it changed when I was introduced to IDP by my friends. Staff in IDP were very helpful in every single way like in dealing with visa applications, documentation support and many more issues that we went through.

3. Are there any (major) challenges you faced?

Coming to Australia was a struggle at the beginning of the year. As I was slammed with drastic changes in the environment, culture, tradition, and beliefs. I was new to the country and facing many adversities like assimilating into the environment, fitting in schools and trying to adjust to the Australian way of living.

4. How did you approach your job search (part-time/full-time)?

I approach my current job through websites that list job positions and recommendations like Indeed Jobs and Job Seekers. Initially, I thought finding jobs in Australia is going to be hard for me as an international student. However, I was wrong as the process was easy and quick. Also, always believe in yourself and have confidence when applying as it is one of the key features for employers to hire you.

5. What are your goals for your career in Australia?

My goal for my career is to finish my bachelor’s degree in psychology honour and continue to pursue a master’s degree in clinical psychology. After graduating, I wished to continue to work and gain experience in Australia’s social health industry.

6. Is there any advice for international students?

Being an international student is hard considering the hardships that each individual has to go through is unique to them. There is so much advice to give! However, if there is one piece of advice from me it is to always be confident. Being confident is important as it beneficially helps you pursue what you believe in, opens many gates that you didn't know existed and encourages social interaction between other individuals.
