Australian Universities value high-performing students which is why there are many scholarships available to attract the world’s best and brightest to study in Australia. There are different scholarship types offered, it’s not only based on academic achievement. There are scholarship incentives encouraging students to study in a geographic area, or a certain subject for example. There are bursaries for professional development to help students further their career and knowledge as well as research grants which cover living expense whilst students are furthering their Masters or PHD in a research project.

Types of scholarships

Merit based - These scholarships are based on academic achievement and are competitive. Universities are seeking the highest performing students for these scholarships. Be ready to show your strong academic background when applying.

Destination based- These scholarships are normally based on studying in a certain location. Recently, the Australian government announced Destination Australian scholarships to encourage students to regional areas and boost the specialist skills in regional areas.

Research /Post-graduate scholarships – Universities are keen to promote research in areas of need or innovation. The assessments of these scholarships are based on a detailed application submission where academic achievement and the area of research will be assessed. Many of these programs offer a substantial bulk payment, educational subsidies, or living allowances designed to make life easier for those looking to study in Australia.

International student discount – A small selection of universities offer a discount off tuition to all international students.
