The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular high stakes English proficiency test.
You may need to take an IELTS test to work or study abroad, to acquire professional registration or to meet visa or immigration requirements in English-speaking countries.
IELTS test results are recognised by more than 12,500 organisations in 150 countries, including educational institutions, employers, professional associations and governments.
IDP offers IELTS in more than 60 countries at 2,000 test locations.
Millions of IELTS tests are taken every year. The best opportunities for moving and living abroad start the moment you choose IELTS.
You can take the IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training test, depending on your plans and the organisation you are applying to.
Both tests assess all four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You will take the Listening, Reading and Writing test all on the same day one after the other, with no breaks in between.
Depending on your test centre, your Speaking test may also be on the same day as the other three tests, or up to seven days before or after that.
The total test time is just under 3 hours.
IELTS test content is developed by an international team of experts and undergoes extensive research to ensure the test remains fair and unbiased.
This ensures fairness for every candidate, regardless of nationality, background, gender, lifestyle, or location.
