The basis of selection will be academic merit as assessed by the grade point average (GPA) or grade point equivalent (GPE) calculated over the qualifying programme for entry to the PhD and the quality and relevance of the proposed research to the academic mission of Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland's Institute of Marine Science. Matters that may be considered in relation to academic merit include, but are not limited to, academic record, standing of awarding institution, academic references, CV and research and publication record.
The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of Science (or nominee), the Director of the School of Biological Sciences (or nominee) and the Director of the Institute of Marine Science (or nominee).
To be eligible for Scholarship consideration, applicants must be enrolled, or enrolling, full-time in a PhD specialising in the area of Marine Science. Where a qualifying programme with a grade point average (GPA) or grade point equivalent (GPE) is the basis for entry to the PhD, an applicant must have a GPA/GPE of 7.00 or above (6.50) for M?ori or Pacific candidates) in that programme to be eligible for Scholarship consideration. Where a qualifying programme is entirely pass/fail, the University may generate a GPA only where the programme consists entirely of a thesis.
The Scholarship is tenable by domestic and international students.
One Scholarship will be awarded triennially for a period of up to three years and will be of the value of NZ $6,000 per annum.
Scholarship applications will usually open around six weeks before the closing date. Please read the regulations carefully to be sure you are eligible before you apply.
