Bachelor of Arts in Journalism - Sports Journalism

At the IU School of Liberal Arts, you'll learn the importance of storytelling and balanced, ethical journalism and public relations. Our downtown Indianapolis location provides you with real-world opportunities on big stages. As you work on your Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (B.A.J), you'll collaborate with peers on portfolio-building projects in timely courses, and you can make a difference on campus by creating student media. Our alumni & mdash, working for organizations such as The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, and Eli Lilly and Company & mdash, serve as guest speakers and as connections to internships and even full-time jobs. Trained, ethical storytellers are more important now than ever during a public health crisis and in a world where truth is under fire. At IUPUI, youll learn how to create balanced, informed news that moves public opinion, and how ethical, strategic public relations creates a dialogue that improves our communities and empowers truthful, honest journalism.

As an undergraduate with a concentration in sports journalism, you are positioned to learn from seasoned pros and to cover high-level games and events as a student journalist. Courses like Sports, Scandals, and Society and Sports Journalism Writing prepare you with the fundamentals of researching, interviewing, reporting, writing, and editing. Students have written articles, game re-caps, and athlete/coach profiles for teams and events such as the Colts, the Pacers, the Fever, the NFL Combine, IUPUI Athletics, and the Horizon League men's and women's basketball tournaments.

You must submit full and complete academic records from every secondary school and university/post-secondary institution you have attended. Your records should also include any coursework currently in progress.
We do not require SAT or ACT test scores for admission or merit scholarship consideration.
Students who are admitted with TOEFL iBT of 60-94 or IELTS of 5.5-6.5 will take the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) placement test. Admitted students with Duolingo scores (min. accepted score - 90) will also be required to take the EAP placement test.
