The university's courses have a range of academic and English language requirements. These requirements are in place to make sure that students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their studies.
Australian university degrees may be structured differently to the ones international students study in their home country, and thus requirements may vary between courses. To gain admission to an undergraduate program, students should have completed the international equivalent of an Australian Year 12 with the minimum required scores. Postgraduate coursework programs require overseas students to have completed their bachelor's degree from Australia or an international equivalent, in a relevant subject. There may also be specific or additional requirements for certain courses, as well as for any higher degrees by research.
Students must also demonstrate proficiency in the English language by meeting the entry criteria for undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate research study – in most cases, an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with no band less than 6.0. Some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency.
While IELTS scores are the primary measure of English proficiency for La Trobe, the university may accept tests other than IELTS if the student's overall score is the equivalent of the required IELTS score. These tests include:
