MSU's master's program in History offers courses in American, European, Latin American, British, Russian, and Middle Eastern history. Small class sizes allow faculty to work closely with students, and courses are designed to prepare students to meet the demands of a career in teaching or to pursue a doctorate degree. Many graduates of the program teach in public schools or at the college level. Graduates who have chosen not to teach have pursued careers in journalism, museum work, library work, government work, and the business world. A master's degree in history provides an excellent foundation for those who are interested in attending law school.
Graduate students benefit from small classes, research opportunities, and faculty with a wide range of chronological, methodological, and thematic research interests. Graduate courseworkfrom small seminars to thesis hours to practicumsequips students with the skills to research, write, and think critically about the past and present. In recent semesters, weve offered graduate seminars on Barbarians, the Cold War, and natural disasters, electives on Latin American Republics, the Balkans, and Ancient & Medieval Women, and practicums that place students in local museums.
