The Advanced Standing program is available in the face to face, hybrid, and online enrollment models. For face to face, AS is a one year, full time program (38 semester credit hours). Face to face AS students begin in the fall and complete course work and field the following two semesters. Hybrid and online advanced standing students complete the program part-time in two years. Two courses (500 clock hours) of field practicum are required for all advanced standing students. You can see plans for advanced standing under each enrollment model tab.
Clinical Practice is the application of theories, methods, skills, values and ethics needed to enhance the cognitive, mental, emotional, behavioral, physical and social well-being of individuals, couples, families, groups and communities. Clinical practice requires leadership in promoting social, economic and political justice. Its methods are relationship-centered, contextualized, culturally sensitive and strengths focused. It includes knowledge about biopsychosocial functioning - and - evidence based interventions. Clinical practice includes, (but not limited to) assessment and intervention, diagnosis and treatment, education and prevention, advocacy, counseling and psychotherapy, supervision and consultation.
The Social Work Practice with Latinos Specialization aims to prepare social workers to work with Hispanic/Latino Communities in a variety of clinical, community, and social service settings. Through the courses in the specialization, students will deepen their awareness and understanding of the historical, political, economic, community, social, and cultural contexts of Latinos/Latinas. Students will also critically examine the variety of practice frameworks, socio-ecological concepts and theories, and cultural constructs that inform culturally-competent social work practice with diverse Latino and Latina individuals, groups, and communities. Through a field component, students pursuing the specialization will be able to demonstrate skills at working effectively with the Latino population in a variety of settings.
