Master of Arts in Plant Biology

The University of Texas at Austin has earned an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching in the plant sciences. Current research areas are diverse and across the breadth of plant sciences. They include

The Plant Biology Program is a consortium of faculty from several Departments of the College of Natural Science. The faculty supervise graduate students in M.A. and Ph.D. degree plans. The Graduate Program in Plant Biology supports graduate students with grants and assistantships in addition to the resources generally available in the Departments of the College of Natural Science. A Master's degree program shall be completed within 3 years. For the Master of Arts degree in the Plant Biology Graduate Program, there are two options for requirements.

Students must have a hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Botany, Plant Biology, or a related field or have at least 24 hours of coursework (12 of those hours must be in upper division) in the life sciences from an accredited institution in the U.S., or have had equivalent training at a foreign university. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.

For international students, submit official TOEFL scores. You must have a minimum score of 550 (paper test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79 (internet-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
