5 things you don’t know about Foundation Pathways

After finishing high school, students who are interested in studying in the UK may already be familiar with A-Level. Today, IDP is here to introduce the Foundation Programme as another interesting option for those who are planning to study in the UK.

Thai and international students from non-English-speaking countries often face difficulties when studying abroad, partly due to not being comfortable with studying in English and also due to not being familiar with living abroad. Therefore, the Foundation Programme is an important part that helps us adjust and prepare ourselves for university studies more smoothly.

Not only that, the Foundation Program also opens opportunities for students who have GPAs or IELTS scores that do not meet the university's requirements. It offers preparatory courses for the subject fields that we want to study as well as English language instruction.

  • Save time

Studying A-Levels can take up to 2 years, while studying a Foundation Programme usually takes no more than 1 year and can lead directly to university studies.

  • Increase adjustment time

Attending a Foundation Programme can give us more time to adjust, both to the teaching style of the Foundation course, which is similar to that of university-level teaching, and to the environment, culture, and way of life in a foreign country.

  • Guaranteed admission to a university

The Foundation Programme is a course that opens up opportunities for students who have a grade point average or IELTS score that falls short of what is required by universities, except for some specific programmes. By completing the Foundation Programme with the required grades, it can be guaranteed that admission to university is certain, and importantly, many prestigious universities also offer Foundation Programmes.

  • Review previous knowledge and expand new knowledge

In the foundation Programme, students can choose courses that align with their intended majors. Therefore, they can review, prepare, and build a foundation before actually studying. Not only that, many subjects in the Foundation Programme, such as academic writing or self-researching and studying skills, are highly beneficial for university-level studies now and in the future.

  • Develop English language skills

Thai students and international students from non-English-speaking countries often face difficulties when studying abroad due to the language barrier. They are not accustomed to learning in an all-English environment. Therefore, the Foundation Programme is a crucial part that helps them adjust and prepare a solid foundation for smoother university studies. Throughout the one-year Foundation Programme, students will fully practise using the English language in everyday life and academic contexts. In addition, most Foundation Programmes also offer English language courses for students to choose from, which can greatly help students improve their English language skills in leaps and bounds.
