Life abroad | It's Black Friday, it’s time to Shop!

Black Friday, held on the last Friday of November every year, is a major event on shoppers’ calendars globally. Similar to Boxing Day, there will be overwhelming discounts offered by big brands in the UK such as Boots, John Lewis, Selfridges, Amazon and many more. You can order online and have the items delivered straight to your doorstep!

If you want to experience the true atmosphere, you may stroll along famous shopping streets such as Regent's Street and Oxford Street in London, where you can find all kinds of high-end brands and department stores, in addition to flashing Christmas lights above your head!

This year's Black Friday is on November 25 and will last until the following Monday. If you are currently in the UK and are looking for Chirstmas gifts, you won't want to miss the occassion!

There are different opinions about why Black Friday is called so, one of them is that the retailers are “in the black”, which means they have enough money to cover costs while offering discounts.

Others suggest that the name dates back to the 1960’s when the Philadelphia Police Department used it to describe the chaos caused by heavy traffic. The scene is similar to what we see today.
