What does the Chevening Scholarship include?

Since it’s a fully funded scholarship, your award will cover the following:

  • Tuition fees of your university

  • A monthly stipend

  • Your travel costs for both sides i.e., to and from the UK

  • Your on-arrival allowances

  • Your homeward departure allowances

  • The cost of your one visa application

  • Grants for travel to Chevening activities in the United Kingdom

Eligibility criteria to apply for Chevening Scholarship

The Chevening scholarship committee adheres by some stringent rules to shortlist the eligible applicants for the award. For a successful application, you’ll have to meet these following requirements:

  • Citizenship of a Chevening-eligible country or territory

  • Show evidence exhibiting that you’ll return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years once your award has ended

  • By the time your application is submitted, you must have completed all components of an undergraduate degree to be accepted into a postgraduate programme at a UK university

To fulfil this eligibility, you would also be expected to exhibit leadership skills, academic excellence, and a go-getter attitude. Factors like age, gender, or caste and class will not affect your chances. It purely depends on how compelling a case you make for yourself based on merit.

Documents required: Academic proofs, References and one unconditional UK university offer

Work experience: You should have a minimum of two years of work experience or equivalent to 2,800 hours to be eligible for the award. To know if your work experience is applicable, you can always check the official website.

How to apply for the Chevening Scholarship?


You’ll have to make an online application for the scholarship, which is available on the official Chevening Scholarship website. We recommend you to carefully go through the list of preferences provided on the website (eg: using Google Chrome, preferring laptop over tablet, etc.) by the Reading Committee. Do submit your application before the deadline (in fact, earlier if possible) to better your chances.

The scholarship will open for applications on August, 2023.
Once you’ve applied, you’ll receive email updates about your application status at each step of the selection process. If not, then you can check your status online with the same credentials you registered your application with.

Selection procedure for the Chevening Scholarship

Here is the step-wise procedure for applying for the Chevening Scholarship:

  • Apply for the master's program of your choice at a UK university

  • You can apply to any 3 UK universities that are covered under the Chevening Program

  • Apply for the Chevening UK Scholarship in August using the Online Application System (OAS)

  • Answer all questions given (with a word limit of 100-500 words)

  • Submit the necessary student supporting documents in JPG/PNG/PDF format

  • Ensure that the size of each document is not larger than 5MB

It is important for candidates to be aware that the application form for the Chevening Scholarship is tailored to specific countries. This means that the application form for the Chevening Scholarship in Mauritius will differ from that of the Chevening Scholarship in Australia.

Guidelines for the interview

If shortlisted, the candidates are interviewed at British embassies and high commissions located in nearby cities or states, subject to panel availability.

  • The interviews will be conducted in English

  • Interview questions will cover personal and professional aspirations

Prior to the interview, candidates must upload the following documents to the online Chevening application system:

  • Copies of all educational certificates and/or transcripts

  • A brief personal biography

  • Two reference letters

  • A passport or national ID (which must be presented at the time of the interview)

Please note that interview slots are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and cannot be changed once booked. In certain circumstances, Skype interviews may be permitted.
