The European universities dominated 40% of the recent Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. The 2021 list has more than 1,500 universities around the world where over 500 of them are in Europe.
Overall, over 30 European nations are represented in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2021. The UK in specific comes in the lead as about 100 UK universities appear in the prestigious table of THE 2021.
Spain follows the UK as the next most represented European country with 50 institutions. However, Switzerland’s ETH Zurich “Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich” comes remarkably in the top five of THE 2021.
Other prominent European universities and institutions comes in the top European universities include Swedish, Dutch, German, and French universities.
While Italy has 49 universities and institutions in the THE ranking, but its top-ranked institution doesn’t make it into the top 50 in Europe or the top 100 internationally.
The University of Oxford is the best university in Europe and the world, ranking as No.1 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the 5th consecutive year.
The UK’s University of Oxford was established in the 13th century making it the oldest university in England. Since then, it has become one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Oxford is also known for hosting the largest library system in Britain with more than 11 million volumes. Its campus also encompasses a number of museums and galleries including the Ashmolean, which is the oldest museum in the UK.
