US universities and colleges offer three intakes. Intakes may also be referred to as term in some institutions. The three intakes available in the US are:
Fall: Starts in August/September
Spring: Starts in January; it’s best for you if you miss the September/Fall intake
Summer: Available for limited programs and colleges, the Summer intake usually starts around May
It can get a bit confusing to choose the intake that’s best for you. Consider factors like the availability of your preferred program, your academic records, entrance test scores, acceptance rates, job opportunities and your readiness to join the program whilst making a decision. We suggest, if you do not have your score cards ready, it’s better to skip the haste and apply for the next intake.
In order to make a well-informed decision, you can book a free counselling session with our experienced counsellors who can advise you on available intakes, course selection, application submission, and visa procedure.
Intake | Duration |
Fall – September (Intake) | November – May (Application Timelines) |
Winter – January (Intake) | July – December (Application Timelines) |
Spring – May (Intake) | January – March (Application Timelines) |
Intakes vary based on the institution and program. Application deadlines for each intake are usually a few months before the start date. It is highly recommended that you apply early to maximize your chances for being accepted into the university or college. Speak with your IDP counsellor for more information.
