The process of lodging a student visa might be doubly nerve-wracking and stressful because it's a step closer to achieving your goal of studying abroad.
You'd ask, 'What if I mess it up and get denied?' But what if you don't? Keep your head held high because here are a few things I did for a successful visa application in Australia that might help you.
If you search the internet, some would say it's better to lodge your visa application before conducting your health examinations. However, doing it this way might cause you some delays if you require further tests.
In my case, I was able to finish all my health examinations in a single day, and the hospital said they'd contact me if ever I needed to do other tests. If not, they'd send my test results directly to the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
I wasn't required to return. However, since you'll never be sure if you'd be required for other tests, I suggest you complete this as early as you can.
And since you already know what kind of visa you're applying for, it's easy to complete 'My Health Declarations' through your Immi Account.
This is a part of the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement, which the immigration uses to verify your intentions to stay in Australia.
Because the student visa is a temporary visa, they expect that you will be staying temporarily. So, if you have plans to apply for other visas after you finish your course, you don\'t need to mention that in your application.
Instead, focus on why you chose to study in Australia, whether it\'s the great education system or the mix of cultures etc. Make sure you take the time to write this because a well-written and thoughtful Statement of Purpose is one of the most important documents that might cost you your visa if not done well.
What I also did was talk about my university acceptance, and why I really wanted to study there. I researched the subjects I\'ll be taking up, picked the ones I liked, and wrote about how excited I was to enrol into those. I also wrote about my previous work experience, how it relates to my current course and how it\'ll be beneficial in my home country.
The documents that are required for a visa application will vary from country to country, but mostly will include a Confirmation of Enrolment, Letter of Offer, Genuine Temporary Entrant, Overseas Student Health Cover, Birth Certificate and Transcript of Records.
I recommend getting organised. I placed all of these in a folder so that it stays in one place and I wouldn\'t panic finding them and getting them all together. I also had a checklist to know what documents are already there and what documents are yet to be sorted out.
Remember, don\'t push this to the last minute so you can avoid the rush and any unnecessary stress. And always remember to submit legitimate documents only. Honesty is always the best policy, right?
Make sure you have correctly answered all the information required. The application is online and can be saved, so you could go back and forth anytime.
After you have double-checked, its better to have fresh eyes look at them too. If you have your parents with you, you can ask them to check if you missed anything or verify your answers.
I used to read out loud my application at home so my parents can chip in and review with me. Reading out loud will also help you pick up on any mistakes you mightve missed. Its funny thinking about it now, but hey, it worked!
It's heart breaking to not be able to study abroad just because you've been denied a student visa. Plus, applying for a visa isn't cheap either. So, just like you, I was scared! But I knew I went to the right people to help and guide me through this process. And it was probably the best thing I did!
When I first visited IDP, they gave me a checklist of all the documents needed that made it a lot easier to get organised. After I filled the application form online, they also re-checked my answers and made sure I got everything complete and accurate, including the attachments.
Luckily, as we submitted my application, I received an auto-grant! Imagine how ecstatic I was!
Applying for a student visa can be quite a dauting process for many. But, if you follow these tips, you'll surely get a higher chance of securing a student visa. No need to worry, you got this! Good luck!
