Selection criteria:
Nominees are evaluated based on their academic progress and their merits. The criteria used by the committee to make their selections are as follows:
- Letters of recommendation
- Statement of professional objective
- Other evidence of achievement
Submission may be made by department/program, faculty or self-nominations by students.
The nominations will be submitted via InfoReady and will include the following elements:
- Two letters of recommendation and supporting information. Letters may be written by any combination of the following sources: department chair, director of graduate studies, student's major advisor, or other faculty.
- Statement of Professional Objectives (maximum of 500 words). This statement should describe the nominee's aspirations, challenges in achieving those goals, and how their record of excellence at URI will equip them for success.
- Curriculum vitae (maximum of two pages)
- Unofficial transcript (downloaded from e-Campus)

Graduate School Tuition Scholarship recipients must be current URI masters (thesis or non-thesis) or professional doctoral (excludes certificate, PharmD and PhD programs) full-time students (taking 9-15 credits per semester, three credits per semester for students with ABD status, or up to six credits per session for up to four consecutive sessions for students in accelerated online programs). The scholarship is for the nine months of the traditional fall and spring semesters.
Recipients cannot hold any additional URI fellowship, assistantship, or scholarship during the same academic year, but may work on campus for hourly pay.
