Candidates will be assessed based on their application to the scholarship and academic merit based on the information provided in their application to study (Research Proposal and Personal Statement). The scholarship shortlisting and awarding period is expected to be completed at the earliest. Successful candidates will be contacted first and once all awards have been allocated, the unsuccessful candidates will be notified.
Candidate criteria
Open to Home/UK Students.
Any incoming full-time student with a project proposal in Chinese Art History.
A distinction at MA Level in Art History or equivalent.
Applicants must have applied to the postgraduate research degree (MPhil/PhD) at SOAS by the time of the application to the scholarship.
Preference will be given to research on the arts and material culture of dynastic or pre-dynastic China conducted primarily through art historical methodologies. Applicants are encouraged to reach out to potential supervisors in the School of Arts to discuss their proposals.
In order to be considered for the scholarship, you must have submitted:
A complete scholarship application
A complete online application to a MPhil/PhD programme
Please note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Your research proposal should take account of the project title and outline above, and indicate how you would aim to carry out the research. In your personal statement, please indicate why this project interests you and in what ways you are qualified to undertake it.
