In making the recommendations, the Head of Department (or nominee) primarily considers academic achievement. The following are also taken into account:
a. Breadth of background, either in subjects other than Computer Science that the applicant has taken at the University, or in work experience. b. The likely value of any research project, in progress or proposed, to the advancement of computing in New Zealand. Preference is given to those who are studying for an honours or master's degree
