Foundation or Pathway courses in New Zealand

主題包含

Programmes to gain entry in your desired bachelor’s degree

New Zealand universities have designed certain foundation or pathway programs to make it easier for international students to be able to enrol in a program of their choice. These are for students who are unable to don’t some specific entry requirements of a course, are unsure of which program to opt for or have a gap year between their studies.

Why opt for pathway programs in New Zealand

New Zealand universities have foundation or pathway programs specially designed for students to prepare for university education and simultaneously enhance skills in:

  • Independent and critical thinking

  • Use of computer and research

  • Required subject knowledge like in specialised knowledge in chemistry, computer science, English and many more

Eligibility criteria

These programmes help students gain a guaranteed entry into an institution’s undergraduate degree provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum average score as required in your chosen foundation programme

  • Minimum score in IELTS as required by the institution (varies based on the course)

  • Any additional entry requirements like interviews, auditions, or portfolios

Duration and intakes

While the programme is available in a standard format, you can also opt for fast-track completion. Besides, the format mainly depends on your academic background and is usually designed for 6 to 12 months. If you are unable to understand which is the best-suited option for you, our international education specialists are there to guide you.

For these foundation and pathway courses, there are four starting dates every year. Usually, the standard dates and extended entries commence in late January and mid-July, whereas for the fast-track option, entry starts from late April and early October. There are post-foundation programmes available for students who can benefit from an additional six months of study. As a pathway student, you will have to select four to five subjects and also prepare for English language proficiency tests such as IELTS.
