Master of Science in Physician Assistant

Conferring a MS degree, the Physician Assistant Program is a 107-credit hour, 28-month program that educates generalist physician assistants who are prepared to practice in a myriad of specialties and settings over the course of their career. Our program emphasizes interprofessional education and practice, a social mission to serve vulnerable populations, evidence-based medical practice and leadership development.

he mission of the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program is to provide a thorough and innovative education to future physician assistants so that they may go on to provide exceptional care to a diverse population of patients. We are committed to designing a successful model for patient-centered, inter-professional education and practice. We promote professionalism, leadership, and service in our students.

The educational philosophy of the PA Program emphasizes the practice of evidence-based, patient-centered care within an interprofessional team. Our integrated curriculum focuses on epidemiology, pathophysiology and treatment of medical and psychological conditions, as well as wellness and disease prevention. We have developed an innovative training model that provides opportunities for team-based learning and practice with a wide variety of healthcare students and providers. The competencies of the BU PA graduate (Program Goals) and the educational objectives of the program are derived from the accreditation Standards of the ARC-PA, the Competencies of the Physician Assistant Profession, and our clinical practice experiences.

Our Program fosters independent student learning, ethical conduct, educational responsibility and professionalism. The faculty of the PA Program and of the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine are devoted to cultivating lifelong learning skills in their students.

We require three letters of recommendation, submitted through CASPA, from:

1) a professor
2) a physician or physician assistant, and
3) an employer, none of whom are relatives of the applicant
