Delivered online, using a variety of interactive methods, it provides you with a qualification that is highly regarded both professionally and academically.Benefits of this courseYou will be encouraged to think in new ways about disorders of language, communication and swallowing through exploring and critically analysing developments in theory and clinical practice.You will develop knowledge and skills that can be applied across different language and cultural contexts.A mix of core and elective modules will allow you to build your professional knowledge while also pursuing your own particular areas of interest.With the exception of one optional module (Practical Audiology) the programme is delivered online, through a mix of live video conferencing teaching sessions, pre-recorded teaching and self-directed study.The flexible modular structure allows you to work to postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or full master’s level.Your studies will be underpinned by a core module in Research Methods and Applied Data Analysis, giving you essential critical, research and analytical skills for further study.Who is this course forIf you are a practising speech and language therapist, this programme will enable you to increase your clinical knowledge and expertise and develop the research skills necessary to progress to specialist roles or further study.The course is also ideal if you are a graduate from a related discipline, such as psychology or linguistics, with an interest in pursuing a research career in the field of communication disorders.Teaching and assessmentOur academic team includes high-profile academic clinicians, internationally-renowned research leaders and senior practitioners.Teaching is informed by current research, including studies undertaken at City. You will have the opportunity to undertake projects linked to our current research and clinical practice.You will learn through a mix of interactive online methods, including live sessions typically delivered on Zoom, and self-directed study.The optional module, Practical Audiology, is the only module delivered on campus, and includes lab work in our specialist facilities.Most teaching is in small groups, allowing for discussion and sharing of ideas.Students take an active role in learning, for example by making presentations to their peers and leading literature based discussions.The course does not include clinical placements, but in all modules connections are made to clinical practice, for example through case based examples.You will be assessed using a variety of methods that explore the depth of your knowledge and skills, including literature reviews, essays, oral presentations, research proposals and data based exercises. All discipline specific modules employ coursework, rather than exam based assessments.The course can be completed without University attendance, but you will have full access to the online resources of the University, including our excellent library facilities and student support services.
