Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology

Designed to create a strong foundation on which you will build throughout your career, Concordia University of Edmonton’s Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology is the only program of its kind west of Manitoba. Inside and outside of the classroom, you will receive a best in class education while being provided with unique opportunities to lead, innovate, and contribute to our campus, surrounding communities, and the greater good.

Our program takes a scholar-practitioner approach, training you to behave ethically and legally, provide culturally competent clinical services, and assess the quality of services provided. While many doctoral programs emphasize traditional functional competencies like assessment, diagnosis, and therapy, we also emphasize foundational competencies like self-reflection, relationship-building, and valuing diversity. Our objective is to create well-rounded clinical psychologists and lifelong learners who are able to collaborate and work effectively with other mental health professionals, leading to better outcomes for clients and communities.

Four-year bachelor’s degree in psychology from a recognized institution; honours thesis or equivalent preferred.

A satisfactory score on one of the following approved English language proficiency examinations, taken within the last two years, as described below:

CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) Assessment. The minimum satisfactory overall score is 60, with at least 60 on each subtest.

Successful completion of Concordia University of Edmonton’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program EAP Tier 1 and EAP Tier 2 or EAP Tier 2 with a minimum score of C or higher in each tier satisfies Concordia University of Edmonton’s broader English Language Requirement for admission to Concordia University of Edmonton’s Graduate Degree programs. Successful EAP performance is considered one component of an application to any academic program; admission requirements and competitiveness (if applicable) to any degree program is still required.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) academic module. The minimum satisfactory overall score is 6.0, with no individual band below 6.0.
Pearson Test of English (Academic). The minimum satisfactory score is 54.
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery). The minimum satisfactory score is 85.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). The minimum satisfactory score is 550 (PBT) or 80 (iBT).
