Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in Social Science Education

The Social Science Education BS/MS pathway is designed to prepare students to teach Social Science in secondary school settings (grades 6 - 12). The program includes coursework in various social science areas such as American history, world history, political science and economics as well as coursework in teaching methodology. The Social Science Education program is a combined BS/MS degree pathway.
The BS/MS pathway requires two years of upper-division undergraduate coursework plus one additional year of graduate coursework. Admission to the graduate portion of the combined degree pathway requires a 3.00 upper-division undergraduate GPA. Upon completion of the undergraduate program you will earn a bachelor's degree in Social Science Education. Your bachelor's degree will be awarded at the end of the Spring semester of your senior year. Upon completion of the graduate program you will earn a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a major in Social Science Teaching.

An applicant who desires admission as a first year in college student must be graduated from a regionally accredited high school (or comparable international institution). All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required. We require freshman applicants to submit at least one ACT and/or SAT test score to be considered for admission. Florida State does not require the optional ACT writing score or the optional SAT essay. We encourage applicants to take both the ACT and SAT, and to attempt each exam more than one time to earn the highest possible score.
