International students who don't quite meet the entry criteria can take a preparatory program. This helps them develop their English language skills and improve courses required for academic study. Programs include English as an Additional Language (EAL), Foundation Program International and University Preparation.

The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is the student voice on campus. SAMU offers a range of services, student advocacy, health and dental plans, as well as a universal transit pass to help students commute around Edmonton with ease. International tuition and fees vary depending on the chosen program. Bachelor's degrees and diploma programs range from CAD 25,000 to 30,000 per academic year. Preparatory programs range from CAD 14,500 to 16,000. This does not include accommodation or the cost of living.
International students have access to generous scholarship opportunities. Those applying for a degree or diploma program may be eligible. Students are automatically considered for entrance scholarships at the time of acceptance. There is no application necessary.
Awards are based on academic achievement. Students in degree programs may qualify for returning student awards in subsequent years.
With an admission average score of a minimum of 80 percent (based on the Alberta High School equivalent) and above, students may receive a scholarship of CAD 4,000 to 14,000.

The Bridge to Canadian Nursing program aims to increase the number of nurses in Alberta. It is designed for internationally educated nurses who want to practise in Canada.
Upon completion, students hold the entry-level competencies for registered nurses in Alberta.
The Early Learning and Child Care Diploma prepares students to become early childhood educators and care for children. Courses focus on child development, curriculum planning, positive child guidance, professional team communications, and working with families.
Applicants apply to the Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies. Students may leave the degree program after the successful completion of the first two years to obtain a Diploma in Early Learning and Child Care.
The Child and Youth Care diploma program provides the knowledge and skills to help individuals and families navigate traumatic challenges. Students learn to build relationships with individuals and families, helping them to gain new insights, access support, and learn coping strategies.
Applicants apply to the Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies. Students may leave the program after the successful completion of the first two years to be eligible for Child Development Supervisor Certification from Alberta Children's Services, and can work in entry-level front-line positions.
Practicum courses provide opportunities to integrate coursework within direct practice settings. The program is accredited through the Child and Youth Care Educational Accreditation Board of Canada.
The Graphic Design Diploma teaches basic design skills, principles of visual organization and composition, and historical context. Students learn through project-based, hands-on, and theory-driven classes.
Applicants apply to the Bachelor of Design program. Students can exit the Bachelor of Design in two years with a Graphic Design Diploma after the successful completion of a specified 60 credits.
