Doctor of Philosophy in Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences

Combining the momentum of MIT's global research enterprise with the advantages of an accessible, collegial department, the Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences graduate program prepares students with the research and communications skills required to succeed as independent scientists. Students typically receive their degree in five years, with the first two years spent in coursework and research, culminating in a General Examinationwhich must be completed before the end of the second year.

To be admitted as a regular graduate student, an applicant must have earned a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor's degree is awarded before they enroll at MIT.
