Master of Arts in Costume Studies and Master of Science in Library and Information Science

NYU Steinhardt's Costume Studies program has partnered with Long Island University's (LIU) Palmer School of Library and Information Science to offer this dual degree. In addition to an MA in Costume Studies, you can earn an MS in Library and Information Science (MSLIS), which is accredited by the American Library Association.This dual-degree option offers a unique combination of specialized content with a valuable professional certification. Students benefit from their participation in Costume Studies, with its focused curriculum, and from courses on library and information science. This approach prepares students for specialist positions that require subject-specific knowledge and library science certification. Both modules are based at NYU's Washington Square campus.The library program operates out of Bobst Library, NYU's main library on Washington Square. Costume Studies headquarters is the Barney Building, in the East Village. Both the Costume Studies MA and the Library and Information Science MS emphasize research and analysis, facilitated by access to NYU's world-class research resources.

Prospective students interested in this dual-degree program must apply separately for admission to both schools. To apply:

Complete a NYU Steinhardt online application for admission (see instructions below).
Complete a Long Island University online application for admission.

Students already enrolled in the Costume Studies MA program who are interested in enrolling in this dual-degree program must declare their intention to enroll in the dual degree before completing 12 credits. Students already enrolled in the MSLIS program at Palmer may apply for the dual degree as long as they have completed no more than 6 credits by the time they enter the Costume Studies program. Students already enrolled in either the Palmer School or NYU Costume Studies program should consult with their advisor before submitting an application for the dual degree.

You must have the equivalent of a regionally accredited four-year US bachelor's degree before beginning your studies at NYU Steinhardt to be considered for admission.
