Doctor of Nursing Practice (BSN to DNP) - Dual Family Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with a dual concentration in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is a comprehensive and innovative program designed to prepare advanced practice nurses for dual specialization. This program equips graduates with the expertise needed to provide holistic and integrated healthcare across the lifespan, addressing both mental health and primary care needs.

Graduates of the DNP in dual Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner program are prepared to take on advanced leadership roles, contributing to the advancement of mental health care delivery, policy, and the integration of evidence into practice.

The DNP degree program at Saginaw Valley State University consists of a minimum of 91 credits for BSN to DNP Dual FNP/PMHNP applicants. DNP students are required to complete a minimum total of 1,000 post-baccalaureate clinical and/or practice hours, with 750 hours being direct patient care upon completion of the DNP degree program. The time limit for completing the DNP degree is seven years from the beginning of the first course in which credit was earned toward the DNP degree at SVSU.

Graduated from an accredited BSN program with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all nursing and prerequisite coursework with all official transcripts.

DNP Essay Goal Statement with literature support - 1000 to 1250 words in length following APA format including four scholarly references from the literature.

Include potential interest areas for the doctoral project.
Explain your understanding of the DNP degree and the purpose of a practice doctorate degree.
Discussion with the Graduate Nursing Coordinator.
Letters of recommendation are not required but may be requested at the discretion of the graduate nursing coordinator.
