BSc (Hons) Physics with a Foundation Year

Physics combines analytical reasoning and problem solving using the language of mathematics to understand the universe. If you have a deep desire to understand how everything works, from the subatomic quantum world to the vastness of the cosmos, then the BSc Physics degree at Swansea is the course for you. Our four-year BSc Physics with integrated foundation degree is suitable for students who do not have the necessary qualifications to directly start the three-year degree. It prepares you for the rigours of the BSc and has been developed to expand your core competencies in Physics and Mathematics.
Our graduates have become data scientists, AI engineers, demand forecasters, quantitative finance analysts, electromagnetic signature analysts, cost draftsmen, patent examiners and software engineers in sectors which include government research, the private sector, aerospace, defence, energy, engineering and space exploration.
A significant percentage of our graduates go on to pursue postgraduate degrees and research with a wide variety of specialisations.

A levels: CDD to include Maths and Physics however applicants with relevant qualifications or professional experience will also be considered.

Access to HE (Science): 27 merits including Mathematics and Physics.

IB: 28 (including 6 in Maths and 7 in Physics at Standard Level.

BTEC: will be considered depending on subjects studied, and applicants will be expected to demonstrate significant knowledge of Physics and Mathematics well beyond GCSE standard.

This course is appropriate for students not having the necessary qualifications to enter the 3 year B.Sc. Degree scheme. Decisions are based on an individual basis by the Admission Tutors.

All applications will be considered on an individual basis, and we will look at the whole application when deciding whether to make an offer of a place, including: the balance, nature and quality of A-level, AS and GCSE subjects (or equivalent), personal statement and referee's comments.

32 UCAS tariff points at a minimum of GCE AS level. For subjects in Accounting and Finance, a minimum Grade C Maths GCSE is required, IELTS - 5.5 (Minimum of 5.5 in each component)
