University Transfer Programme - Science

UTP: Science is equivalent to the first year of your undergraduate science studies. Upon completion of the programme, you will be eligible to progress to the second year of the Bachelor of Science degree and you will be able to choose from a variety of specialisations. Programme facts- Facilities for science are world-class and include field stations throughout the South Island of New Zealand and in Antarctica. Cutting-edge laboratories, access to 24-hour computer labs and specialist library collections. UCs scientists are involved in internationally ground-breaking research. They have designed components for the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, are discovering new ways to combat superbugs, developing new non-invasive diagnostic techniques in medicine and have ring lasers to measure Earth's rotation.

Entry into the UTP generally requires the successful completion of NCEA Level 3: 12 credits in Mathematics (including both 91578 - differentiation and 91579 - integration), 12 credits in Physics (if required for intended major) and 10 credits in one or two other University Entrance approved subjects or its equivalent.

Majors with specific maths requirements: UTP Science: Computer Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics. Majors with specific maths and physics requirements - UTP Science: Astronomy and Physics.

English Language Requirements:

• IELTS (Academic): Overall 5.5. All band scores minimum of 5.0
• TOEFL Internet based test (iBT): Score of 46 with a minimum writing score of 14
• Cambridge English Qualification - B2 First or B2 First for schools: Score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
• OET (Occupational English Test): Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
• Pearson Test of English (Academic): Score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
• LanguageCert: B2 Communicator International ESOL Written (LRW) HIGH PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS.
• Trinity ISE: ISE II with no less than merit in any band
• Certificate of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA): Qualification completed and awarded
