Master of Public Health in General Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) in General Public Health is designed to equip practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to play roles in key public health functions such as assessment, planning, action implementation and evaluation, in governmental, non-governmental, community-based and industry settings across sectors and jurisdictions.

In addition to 30 of core public health courses, you have the opportunity to obtain additional credentials concurrently by taking graduate embedded certificates (GEC), or 15 of competency building electives.

A graduate embedded certificate is a unique additional graduate credential in current areas of public health practice which are awarded at the time of convocation, along with your MPH degree. Learn on the cutting edge of practice to support communities with current and future challenges.

The minimum admission requirements for the master's degrees are those set out by the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies:

A baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, in a relevant field from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta, and
A grade point average of at least 3.0 on the 4.0-point scale over the last 60 units of graded coursework completed.
A minimum acceptable TOEFL score of 92 with a score of at least 21 on each of the individual skill areas (Internet-based) or equivalent, or
A minimum overall band score of 7.0, with at least 6 on each test band on the IELTS.
