Master of Science in Physics

The department offers two Master's degree programs, which typically take 4-6 quarters to complete. Plan I requires 32 quarter hours of graduate coursework and a Master's thesis. Plan II requires 36 quarter hours of graduate coursework and passing a comprehensive exam. There is no foreign language requirement. The UC Davis Department of Physics provides a dynamic and diverse environment for the training of graduate students. With our three core research areas of condensed matter, high energy physics, and cosmology and smaller programs in nuclear physics, high energy astrophysics, computational science and physics education, the opportunities for the motivated student are almost endless. Our graduate students go on to prestigious postdoctoral positions and excellent industry placements.

TOEFL scores - International applicants only , The minimum cumulative GPA required for admission to graduate study at the University of California, Davis is 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale. Students coming from universities where a GPA is not calculated are evaluated using other aspects of their file and letters bearing on class performance when available. All international students who do not speak English as their first language, or who have not studied at an institution where English is the language of instruction, must submit an official TOEFL or IELTS score from the past two years. The university requires a minimum score of 80 (internet based TOEFL), 550 (paper TOEFL), or 7 (IELTS).
