Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences - Medicinal Chemistry

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the UConn School of Pharmacy has a rich history of excellence in all three facets of its core mission: teaching, research, and service. We do this through world class teaching and learning, scientific discovery and exchange, and health care improvement. The Department is home to 20 faculty members with expertise in the disciplines of Pharmaceutics, and Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Medicinal Chemistry.
Investigators in medicinal chemistry explore the design, synthesis and mechanism of new drugs. Interested students often have backgrounds in chemistry and biology. Key areas of concentration within the department comprise structural biology, including the determination of structures of drug targets using X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), organic synthesis of new drugs and structure-based drug design.

You must hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
The GRE is required for admission to the UConn School of Pharmacy's Ph.D. program. The code for UConn Storrs is 3915 (Department code is not required). We look for at least 50 percentile in each category.
International Students must complete a Test of English Proficiency. If you are not a native speaker of English, you must submit evidence of your proficiency in the English Language. We accept scores from the following tests:
If you use the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language you must have a minimum overall score of 550 for the paper-based test or 79 for the internet-based test.The TOEFL code for UConn Storrs is 3915
If you submit results from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), you must have an average overall score of at least 6.5.
Your personal statement should be limited to two pages and should describe your research interests, your reasons for pursuing a graduate degree, and your desire to attend the pharmaceutical sciences program at the University of Connecticut. An additional writing sample/research essay is not required.
Details about your preparation, your strengths and weaknesses as a student, any academic honors, scholarships, or fellowships you have received, will all be helpful.

A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree, or
If the most recent degree is an undergraduate degree or the student has not yet completed their undergraduate degree:
A GPA of 3.0 or higher for the entire two most recent years of full-time undergraduate coursework, or
A GPA of 3.5 or higher for the entire most recent year of full-time undergraduate coursework
