Master of Science in Bioinformatics

The three programs deepen your understanding of bioinformatics and prepare for you for a successful career in Canada and internationally. The programs train you for positions in industry, the public sector, and academia, and allow you to conduct bioinformatics research. The classes, research project, and professional training opportunities ensure that you graduate with a comprehensive and effective skillset.The amount of biological information available to the scientific community, governments, and industry has grown immensely. The challenge is to organize, visualize, and interpret this information to develop these insights. An effective bioinformatician can apply computational and statistical tools to answer diverse biological questions. Bioinformatics is key for agriculture, medicine, public health, conservation, and law enforcement.

In the M.Sc. program students will typically take 6 semesters to work on a traditional thesis-based research project and write a thesis. This program will provide students with the opportunity to develop research and communication skills in bioinformatics at an advanced level. Students will take four courses and can enter the program during any semester.The M.Sc. in Bioinformatics program is also affiliated with the M.Sc./M.A.Sc. Collaborative Specialization in Artificial Intelligence (CSAI) at the University of Guelph.

Students entering the M.Sc. program will have completed an Honours Bachelor's degree with a minimum admission average of B (75% and higher) in the last two years of full-time equivalent study in any of the following or related fields. International English Language Testing System (Academic) (IELTS) 6.5 , Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and (TOEFL Special Home Edition (iBT)) 89 A minimum score of 21 must be achieved in each of the four categories (listening, speaking, reading, writing)
