Research at Hull spans several multidisciplinary themes, including energy and environment, social justice and responsibility, health, cultural and creative industries, and business and logistics.
The University of Hull has four academic faculties:
Subject areas taught in this faculty include digital and game design, drama, education, English and creative writing, film and media studies, history, criminology, philosophy and sociology, as well as teaching and childhood studies.
This faculty combines Hull University Business School, the Department of Politics, and the Law School.
Subject areas taught in this faculty include accounting and finance, business and management, economics, law, logistics and supply chain management, marketing, as well as politics and international studies.
This faculty includes the Hull York Medical School and teaches subject areas including anatomy, biomedical and forensic science, criminology, health, nursing, midwifery, medicine, psychology, pharmacology, physiotherapy, social work, and sport, health and exercise science.
This faculty is home to subject areas including artificial intelligence, biochemistry, biological science, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, electrical and electronic engineering, environmental science, geography, mathematics, mechanical engineering, physics and astrophysics, and robotics.
In order to study at the University of Hull, students whose first language is not English or who need a student visa will need one of the University of Hull's recognised English Language Tests.
For undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the university accepts a number of tests and qualifications.
For most of the undergraduate courses, prospective students are required to have an overall IELTS score of 6.0, taken within two years of the start date of their chosen course. Applicants will also need to have at least 5.5 in all of the skills elements (Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening). There are some undergraduate courses that require a higher score and these can be found on the individual course listings on the University of Hull website.
For postgraduate study, English language requirements vary for these courses so applicants are advised to check the entry requirements on individual postgraduate course pages.
Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements can undertake a pre-sessional English Language course at the University of Hull.
The university offers a range of international scholarships and awards to help students fund their studies. These are offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Hull's campus includes a 7-storey library, gym and sports centre, coffee shops (including Costa), accommodation, a mini-supermarket, pub and even a nightclub, all within easy walking distance. This means less time commuting and more time enjoying university life in a vibrant, close-knit community.
The students' union offers over 100 societies, sports clubs and volunteering opportunities, and is currently undergoing a GBP 300 million project to drastically enhance the campus buildings and facilities. Whether students want to try something new, pursue a passion, compete in sports, or develop new skills, the university has them covered.
The Brynmor Jones Library has undergone a GBP 28 million refurbishment and offers countless learning resources and spaces. There's even a seventh-floor observatory offering panoramic views across the city. The library offers open access computers and loan laptops, and over a million books, including rare books dating back to the 15th century. A skills team is based in the library to help students thrive in their studies. The renowned poet Philip Larkin served as librarian for 30 years.
There is a range of on-campus housing options including a GBP 130 million accommodation complex Westfield Court. All new full-time undergraduate students are guaranteed a room in university accommodation if they apply by the given deadline. Following a GBP 17 million investment in sports facilities, the University of Hull offers a twelve-court sports hall, squash courts, a 120-station gym, a strength and conditioning suite, fitness classes, and floodlit 3G pitches with pitch-side changing rooms.
Students can join over 50 sports clubs through the students' union, ranging from basketball and ice hockey to jujitsu and climbing.
