PhD in Transport Studies - Rail Centre

To do a PhD, youll usually need to dedicate 3 years full-time or 5 years part-time, during which youll be generating new knowledge and considering that new information in relation to existing information. Youll carry out a programme of research under the supervision of a primary supervisor and one or more co-supervisors, have the chance to strengthen your research skills and knowledge, and develop a really wide range of qualities. Our aim is to enhance understanding of the economics of rail transport demand and supply, rail operation and control, and the economic value of rail technical innovation and investment. Our unique perspective comes from taking a multi-disciplinary approach, in particular combining rail engineering and technical research with economics, such that technical innovations that deliver social welfare gains can be identified.

You must have achieved a bachelor degree with a 2:1 (Hons) or equivalent, or a good performance in a Masters level course. We also recognise relevant industrial and academic experience. IELTS- 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in all components. TOEFL IBT (Internet-based TOEFL)- 87 with a minimum score of 20 in listening and reading, 21 in writing and 22 in speaking.
