Master of Arts in Philosophy - Philosophy of Race

The M.A. program is designed for students currently pursuing a professional program or academic degree at the University of Michigan outside of philosophy, for whom a graduate credential in philosophy would be advantageous. Only in exceptional cases, as determined by the admissions committee after the application deadline, are other students accepted into the M.A. program. If a student in the M.A. program decides they want to earn a Ph.D., they must apply for admission to the Ph.D. program in the normal manner, in competition with other applicants. M.A. students at Michigan will not be given special consideration for admission to the Ph.D. program. If an M.A. student is accepted into the Ph.D. program, course work done as an M.A. candidate will not automatically be credited toward the Ph.D. requirements. Whether some or all of it is so credited is to be decided by petition.

Our faculty have research specialties ranging from standard areaslike moral and political philosophy, metaphysics and epistemology, the philosophy of language and mind, the philosophy of science, and the history of philosophyto more specialized fields like feminist philosophy, rational choice theory, formal epistemology, philosophy of law, and philosophy of physics.

Applicants complete a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association, or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
All applicants are required to upload a scanned copy of their official transcript, for each bachelor's, master's, professional, or doctoral degree earned or in progress
Applicants who must demonstrate English language proficiency through test scores but do so through either TOEFL or IELTS. Minimum scores for admission are below.
