Part-time jobs for international students

A Canadian study permit holder may work up to 20 hours per week. Good news is there are several part-time jobs in the country that offer flexible schedules for students.

Here are the Top 5 Highest Paying Part-time Jobs in Canada for International Students:

1. Freelancer

If you enjoy working from home and on your own time, then this job is perfect for you. In Canada, a student can work as a freelance writer, a web designer, a copywriter, a graphic designer or a translator.

Freelance jobs offer great compensation, depending on your client and the quality of work you produce. On average you can get paid up to $25 per hour.

2. Server/Bartender

If you are interested in the service industry or just looking for a job you can do at night, then this job is for you. Serving/Bartending jobs are usually done during weeknights or weekends only.

While the hourly wage is not as much as the others, this part-time job gives you more free time to focus on your academics and if you do well, you can even get large tips from generous customers. So how much you earn totally depends on the establishment you work in, your customers, and your time. On average you can get paid $11.00 per hour (tips not included).

3. Ridesharing driver

If you like driving around and would like to explore Canada while getting extra cash, then a popular part-time job among international students in Canada is to become an Uber or Lyft driver. This job is great because of its accessibility and flexibility. Your time is completely under your control and you’ll only be needing a driver’s license (which means you have to be at least 21 years of age), a car, and a phone.

Your earnings are dependent on how often you drive, but on average you can get paid $14-$25 per hour as a ridesharing driver.

4. Tutor

If you have a lot of knowledge and experience in certain subjects and have the patience to teach others, then this is the best part-time job for you. Tutoring allows you to choose your niche and market independently. You can teach any subject you like and choose your students from elementary school level up to university/college level.

On average, you can get paid  $15-20 per hour depending on the subject you teach and the number of students you acquire.

5. Teacher’s assistant

If you have experience in teaching, are interested in working in the educational field, or even just have a knack for helping and assisting others, a lot of teachers and professors in Canada hire teacher’s assistants to help them with tutoring students, creating lesson plans, facilitating class and checking paper works.

Fortunately, they require minimal experience for the position. Some would prefer those who had at least a year of experience in the field, while some only prefer those who exhibit great organizational and communication skills.

The average pay is around $15-16 per hour.
