Hi, I'm Neil, and I'm studying at Bond University on Sunny Gold Coast. How did I make friends here in Australia? Well, I put on a smile like this, and then I signed up for every event, every club that I could join. And from there, I just had a good chat with some of the people that I met there.

I personally think that the best way to make friends in Australia is to have an open mind and not to be afraid to say hello and say yes to as many opportunities as you can. For example, in my second year, I want to try a mixed martial arts. So I took up jiu-jitsu and through sort of exploring this hobby, I've been able to make a host of friends. And my advice would be to say yes as many things as you can. And explore your passions.

I think the plots and societies are a great place to make friends. We have a very active student association. We also have the Peer Mentor program to help new students come and feel comfortable on the campus. So there's a program called New Mates that helps international students connect with locals here that helps you get around and know more about Newcastle. Just helps you make friends.
