I think in my first year, what was crucial for me, you know, thinking back on where I am now, was building relationships with your professors or faculty. I think these relationships are really important moving forward in your college career because they become such a support, especially that constant support. They know you since you first got in and they will support you throughout your experience. So just having that person that knew you from the start is always super, super special.

Then foremost, you are relocating to a new country, so approach this experience with an open mind. My only advice for you would be to make as many friends as possible network with peers, industry leaders, professors, explore all the resources that are available for you on campus, get involved in both in campus activities as well as community service.

They both said I would help our international student is to get involved at Poolesville University, we hold a ton of events throughout the year. So whether it's industry professionals or alumni events, you should go do your homework about the speakers, go talk to them, have meaningful conversations, exchange information, join our student club and become an officer or a mentor. Taught the students that are from outside of your country, teach them about your country, get to know about their country. You know, really, the key thing is to network, network, network.

One of the most important things is to join one of the clubs and use student guild. There's a fantastic number of clubs that you can choose between. And also, it's always easy to stick to people from your own country, but make sure that you actually interact with students from all over the world that widens your networks from day one.

If I had to give only one piece of advice to an international student who wants to succeed, it would be to get involved and a big part of that is attending your classes. I know that it can be really hard to do that when you're studying online from home, but that's the most important piece. You get the opportunity to participate in class discussions and to meet your classmates. And so that's really important to your success. Outside of that, we also have webinars and online events that you can participate in. So we would be happy to have you join us for those.

Hi, my name is Nick Lopez, I work with Claremont Graduate University as the assistant director of admissions. Really defining your roadmap and understanding what experience is most important to you both academically and personally that you can combine while you're starting your journey within your first year is the best way to really map out your success and understand that meeting with your support team early and often is the best way to ensure that success, so you don't miss out on opportunities that you're looking forward to.

My personal tip for international students is to get involved outside of the classroom as best as you can. There are an abundance of options for extracurricular activities, intramural sports and all sorts of ways to connect with other Carlton students on campus. As a former Carlton student, one of my favorite parts about my university experience was getting involved in those extracurriculars and different sports available on campus. It was a great way to meet friends with similar interests and friends across different years at the university. I really enjoyed it.
