GTE to study in Australia

GTE stands for Genuine Temporary Entrant. It is a means for the country to ascertain the genuineness of a student visa candidate and rule out any misuse of the same for illegal migration to Australia. Often referred to as an ‘integrity measure’ or an ‘integrity assessment document,’ it is an essential part of your student visa.

As an applicant, you are required to satisfy the following criteria falling under the GTE umbrella for a successful application:

1. The applicant’s conditions in their home country: 
   Applicants are required to provide a written statement covering why they would like to study in Australia and reasonable reasons for not commencing the study in their home country or any other region, applicant’s personal ties in their home country (i.e., family and employment ties), economic circumstances of the applicant and relatives in Australia. 

2. The applicant’s potential circumstances in Australia
   Applicants are required to demonstrate knowledge of their intended program and education provider, along with course content and level of research they have undertaken, before finalising their course. Immigration authorities (DHA) also consider the applicant’s family and community ties in Australia while assessing their potential circumstances.

3. Value of the course to the applicant’s future

   It’s essential for the applicant to validate that the intended course is consistent with their previous education background and will assist them in obtaining employment or improving employment prospects in their home country. If the applicant is drifting from their usual career/study path, it should be explained comprehensively in the SOP (Statement of Purpose). 

   Career outcome at completion of the proposed course is an essential part of GTE criteria. Hence applicants are expected to know the remuneration they may expect at completion of the program along with the kind of organisations/sectors they would like to work in, making use of qualifications obtained from Australia.

4. The applicant's immigration history
   An applicant’s immigration history refers both to their visa and travel history. As part of GTE criteria, authorities will weigh the outcome of previous visa applications (if any) to Australia and other countries and if the applicant travelled to Australia or other countries & complied with visa conditions/laws. In case the primary applicant is a minor, the intentions of a parent/legal guardian will be assessed before making the decision.

   It is highly advisable to provide supporting evidence with your written statement of purpose to strengthen your case.

   Incentives to return	Compelling reasons to return to home country post-completion of the program. Applicants are advised to provide evidence of financial, family, and social ties.
   Financial circumstances	Documents indicating employment/business activities of the applicant, income tax returns, and bank statements.
