A panel of senior staff from the Unit and Department will consider all applications and the successful applicant will be notified as quickly as possible. The panel's decision will be final and there is no appeal against the decision.
Value: For the successful applicant, the Trust agrees to pay your tuition fees of up to £4,800 each year, for the two years of your programme and to pay £4,800 per annum for a further two years, as a part-time salary while you work as an art therapist in a hospital or cancer clinic after successful completion of the programme. You will be known as the Corinne Burton Art Therapy Student, whilst studying at Goldsmiths and as a Corinne Burton Art Therapist once you are qualified and engaged in part-time work.
Essential: You must have received and accepted an unconditional offer of a place on the MA in Art Psychotherapy and hold resident status in the UK. You should not already be in receipt of any grant or award for fees. You must be prepared to undertake some part of your clinical placement in a hospice or in work with patients suffering from cancer, for which you will receive appropriate supervision. You must agree to undertake part-time work in a hospital or hospice, normally in London or the South East of England, practising art therapy with cancer patients for two years following successful completion of the Masters programme.
Desirable: Some pre-course experience of working in a general hospital or in caring for terminally ill patients. Familiarity with the art therapy literature concerned with the treatment of terminally ill patients.
You should submit an application (maximum 1,000 words) by email stating why you would like to be considered for the studentship, what particular personal qualities and professional attributes you could offer in the care of persons suffering from cancer and what contribution you feel art therapy could make in this field.
Applications should be titled: ‘CBMT – Scholarship Application: Your Name' and sent by email.
