Train to become a journalist with our wide-ranging Newspaper Journalism MA programme. You will develop practical skills to help you stand out and develop your career in a competitive field.

These include interviewing, reporting, research, video, social media, SEO, writing news and features, editing and production, for online and print. Practical work is informed by key theory, particularly ethics and media law. Specialist modules enable you to focus on an area such as investigative journalism, sport, politics or arts and culture, plus podcasting or journalism innovation. We support you in finding optional work placements to undertake, which students often find valuable in building a portfolio, experience and contacts. Tutors offer individual CV advice, with input on job applications and interviews.

You should hold an upper second class honours degree or the equivalent from an internationally recognised institution.
Those without an upper-second class degree may be considered if they have substantial experience in journalism or a related field providing relevant experience, eg PR, comms, editing in another context etc.

Degree Transcript/Provisional Transcript For any and all completed degree courses, we need your final transcript of marks with a clear overall grade. If you have not yet finished your course, please provide a provisional transcript of marks received to date. If your transcript is not in English, please provide an official translation as well as the original documents.
A copy of your CV with your work experience in journalism clearly highlighted.
A 250-word article (not question and answer format) suitable for a local website or newspaper, based on an interview you conduct with someone interesting in your local area.
A colour photocopy of your valid passport. We only require the colour photocopy of the page with your picture.
Accepted proof of English Language Proficiency if required.

This course requires the equivalent of an IELTS academic test with an overall score of 7.0 with no less than 7.0 in the writing subtest and no less than 6.5 in any other subtest.
