Masters of Geoscience (Exploration and Mining Geology)

This two year Masters of Geoscience course provides advanced technical and professional training for those wishing to upgrade their geology or geophysics qualifications or enter a new branch of geoscience to enhance their career prospects. Students can select either a major in Exploration and Mining Geology or Geophysics.

The Exploration and Mining Geology Major provides specialised technical and professional training for graduates in geology or closely related disciplines. It is designed for those with a particular interest in the minerals industry and all students undertake a supervised project on a minerals related topic, often in collaboration with industry or government partners. This course offers detailed knowledge of mining geology and mineral systems. You will learn about the principal types of ore deposits, the fundamentals of mineral exploration, collecting and displaying geophysical data, geochemical processes and resource estimation.

A recognised bachelors degree in science or a related degree. Students who wish to study the Exploration and Mining Geology major will be required to have completed foundation geoscience units at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Graduates in other disciplines with significant relevant industry experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
