Masters of Science in Biotechnology - BioScience Track

Biotechnology is a dominant sector of the global economy. Advances fueled by the biotechnology industry have revolutionized health care, agriculture and environmental remediation in the 21st century. Over the past several decades there have been major expansions in the field of biotechnology, which has affected many aspects of our lives and society.

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers a program of study leading to the M.S. degree in Biotechnology, whose curriculum reflects the multidisciplinary nature of biotechnology, integrating theoretical and lab-based science courses with dedicated courses in BioBusiness, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, regulatory affairs, etc. The oneyear (30-credit) program may be completed over a longer time frame for students who are already employed or wish to complete the program on a part-time basis. The M.S. offers five different tracks.

This track provides a concentration of science courses, many with laboratory components, and is designed for students who wish to pursue a higher degree such as an M.D., Ph.D. or DDS, or a career in academic and industry research and health-related professions. This track also facilitates entry into biotechnology industry laboratory management, product development, manufacturing and quality control.

A 4-year bachelor's degree or equivalent with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (across all undergraduate coursework and/or institutions attended).
