Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) is one of the largest universities in the UK and is home to a diverse community with over 5,000 international students from over 120 different countries. Located in the city centre, our campus is conveniently located close to the city's world-renowned music, sports and cultural venues.
Manchester Met is known for its quality of teaching and its outstanding research – 90 percent of which is rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2014-2021).
The University has invested over £400m to enhance its teaching and research facilities, buildings and public spaces. This includes the Grosvenor East building for the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the School of Digital Arts, the Institute of Sport and our new Dalton building for the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
International students are supported throughout their journey to Manchester Met by the University's knowledgeable and friendly International Office. The team delivers regular online events and are there to help with queries that students have prior to leaving their home countries.
The University provides support to students once they are here, with extra help available with careers, finances, wellbeing and learning, such as English language classes and help from the Academic and Study Skills team. The University's Student Hub offers an information service on all student-related matters. The Hub team can refer students for specialist support on student living, studying and finance, as well as immigration and welfare.
Manchester offers students a valuable experience with plenty of culture, history and character for students to immerse themselves in, Manchester is considered one of the UK's best cities to live in (Global Liveability Survey 2023 by the Economist Intelligence Unit) and is the third best student city in the UK (QS Best Student Cities 2024).
Manchester Met is known for its quality of teaching and outstanding research, with 90% of which is rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. The University was recently rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023.
Manchester Met's academic staff have strong links with industry partners across all subject areas, contributing their knowledge and experience to the design of courses and also giving specialist lectures and seminars to students.
The University has links with professional bodies and associations, including AACSB and ACCA, to ensure the content of our courses is up-to-date and relevant to industry.
Manchester Metropolitan academic staff develop research that directly influences degree programmes whilst helping solve major issues at local, national, and international levels. Students are taught by experts in their subjects who, alongside teaching, could also be delivering business solutions or advising on major policy changes for governments.
Manchester Met is committed to recognising high-achieving students and has a comprehensive range of scholarships available for international students, including a prestigious Vice-Chancellor's International Regional scholarship for undergraduate students offering 50% of tuition fees in the first year of study. The University also provides a range of automatic scholarships to support international students which can consist of £2,500 for each year of your degree for undergraduate students and £3,500 for first year of study for postgraduate students.
International students receive support through pre-departure webinars, airport arrival guidance as well as various Welcome events.
Rise and Getting Ready to Learn
Rise is Manchester Met's extracurricular programme that is all about learning beyond your course. It is your chance to explore new interests, pick up valuable skills, and get recognised for everything you do outside of your main subject. You can access a range of Rise resources before you enrol and start your course. These resources will help you prepare for your studies and make the most out of your time at Manchester Met. Our Step up to Study courses available through Rise are designed to help you build on your previous educational experience in the context of studying at university.
Manchester Met's Students' Union represents the rights and interests of our 43,000 students. The Union is led by a team of students who are elected by you and your fellow students. Once you have enrolled at the University, you automatically become a member of The Union and have access to a range of services and facilities. With over 130 different sports clubs and societies, there's something for everyone. The Union building has a cafe, shop for all students' essentials, study spaces and more. The Union provides free expert advice on everything from study tips to managing your budget and looking after your mental health.
We have a wide range of support services in place to provide reassurance that safety and security on campus and in our University are our priority:
• Student Welfare Services - The University's Student Welfare team makes sure students get the right support, guidance, and practical advice when they need it.
• Chaplaincy - Our chaplains provide support to staff and students of faith but also of no faith and are available for you to speak with on campus or remotely.
• The University's Student Hub - The Student Hub is available in-person to provide support and advice on campus.
• Spectrum.life - Our student support service, in partnership with Spectrum.Life, is available to all students 24/7 and has a free UK helpline as well as hours of online content available through the web portal or app.
• The Students' Union Advice Centre – Providing additional support and advice to our students.
• Safe Zone App - Students can also feel reassured by having easy ways to report any incidents or concerns - all of our university community has access to a Safe Zone app which calls for emergency help whilst on campus and students can use our Report and Support line to report incidents if they experience or witness anything on this or any other matter relating to dignity and respect.
The University has over 350,000 alumni in over 170 countries. Manchester Met's professionally relevant qualifications have a firm focus on industry experience and future employability, in subject areas directly related to what employers really need.
The University programmes have been developed with a focus on employability by working in close partnership with business and industry professionals. Many courses at the University include the option of a work placement or internship. Manchester Metropolitan University has excellent industry links with numerous global organisations.
The University puts on regular careers fairs and events for students to improve their employability such as workshops, networking events with industry partners and inspirational guest speakers. Students will benefit from lifelong access to a digital careers service after they graduate.
The Dalton building is the new Science and Engineering building at Manchester Metropolitan. The building provides new and improved study areas and catering facilities. Students have access to the new state-of-the-art Superlab and can utilise our sector-leading facilities.
The University has began its planning application for a library transformation project. The proposed new library would feature digitally enabled teaching and research facilities to enhance students' data science and analytical skills, flexible break-out spaces to support collaboration and nurture ideas.
Manchester Metropolitan has been rated as Gold overall in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023 meaning that the quality of teaching at the University is recognised as outstanding.
Manchester Met offers a wide range of foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate courses. All programmes are enriched by the University's extensive research activities, and many have been developed with businesses and industry professionals with a focus on employability.
There are several routes for students who don't have the entry requirements for direct entry on to undergraduate or postgraduate programmes. Foundation courses provide students with the level of knowledge needed to secure a place at Manchester Metropolitan University. Students can also opt to take preparation courses that lead to the second year of undergraduate courses and to postgraduate programmes.
Pre-sessional English courses and English language support is available at a cost for international students who do not meet the English language requirements of their degree course. The intensive programmes prepare students for study in the UK and are available at various start dates throughout the year.
The University has collaborative teaching partnerships where Manchester Metropolitan University degrees are delivered with local partners, along with student exchange agreements with partners worldwide and international research collaborations.
