Bachelor of Science in Pure Mathematics and Statistics (Joint Honours)

Statistics involves the modelling of data from virtually every field including biology, economics and finance, engineering, environmental science and medicine, and deals with inferences using mathematical tools and probability theory. It is also a desirable prerequisite for almost any area of learning since it can serve as an extremely effective tool for training in logical reasoning.

We employ undergraduate students in the Math Help Centre and to mark course assignments. Some of our students qualify for summer research employment funded by the National Science and Engineering Research Council.

We offer major, minor and honours programs leading to either a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (B.Sc.) in statistics. Joint programs are offered in

biology/statistics (B.Sc. honours)
computer science/statistics (B.Sc. major and honours)
economics/statistics (B.Sc. major)
economics/statistics (B.Sc. major with co-operative program in economics)
pure mathematics/statistics (B.Sc. honours)

Minimum score of 24 on the IB Diploma with completion of the required subject areas or completion of another recognized High School diploma program.
The IB certificate and career programs are not acceptable for admission unless another recognized High School diploma or certificate has been awarded.
IELTS - A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS Academic with at least a band 6 in reading and writing General training results are not acceptable.
For admission to winter Jan 2025 and later A minimum score of 83 on the TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition with a minimum score of 20 in reading and writing
For admission to fall Sept 2024 and earlier A minimum score of 79 on the TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition with a minimum score of 20 in reading and writing and not less than 17 in listening and speaking.

Duolingo English Test DET until spring 2025 only - Requirement A minimum overall score of 115.
Pearson Test of Academic English PTE ACADEMIC - Requirement - For admission to winter Jan 2025 and later A minimum overall score of 60.
For admission to fall Sept 2024 and earlier A minimum score of 58 in each of the reading writing listening and speaking components of the PTE is required.
