Toronto Metropolitan University's urban campus is situated in one of the safest big cities in the world (ranked #2 safest big city by The Economist, 2021). TMU considers the safety and security of its entire learning community to be of the highest priority. From assisting students and staff to external visitors, the university's highly-trained Community Safety and Security team provides 24/7 presence on campus to respond to issues and concerns, perform safety patrols on foot and by bike, offer emergency medical assistance, and offer WalkSafe escorts when students need extra support to feel safe.
Inclusion is at the core of campus safety, and TMU's dedication to equity and diversity has significantly informed their service. Security guards are trained on topics such as anti-oppression, anti-racism, suicide intervention and sexual violence.
TMU Safe is the university's alert tool used to notify the community about urgent situations which present an immediate safety or security risk. This includes notices related to severe weather, building evacuations and active threat situations. TMU Safe sends alerts via six digital channels including SMS, email, website, in-app notification, X (formerly Twitter), and campus TVs.

With hands-on practical learning experiences and career-focused services and supports widely available to them, TMU graduates excel in the labour market. According to a recent survey conducted for the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU), the university enjoys a particularly high graduate employment rate – with 88.3 per cent of students in work or engaged in further study within just six months of graduation, and 92.5 per cent within two years of graduation. Looking at TMU co-op students only, 50 per cent of them actually secure a full-time job before they graduate, and in some programs that figure rises to an outstanding 90 per cent hired before graduation.
Plans are underway to build a new Student Wellbeing Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University after TMU students voted yes in a 2022 referendum on a health and wellbeing fee to improve the quality, timeliness and level of wellbeing services students receive.

TMU is committed to creating opportunities for students from many backgrounds and provides an extensive range of scholarships and financial aid programs to support its learning community.
International students may qualify for entrance scholarships and distinguished awards, such as the President's Entrance Scholarship (up to CAD 40,000) or the International Student Merit Scholarships (CAD 5,000).
The President's Entrance Scholarship is awarded to secondary school graduates who demonstrate academic accomplishment, leadership qualities, original thought and creative ability. A minimum 90 per cent final admission average is required for consideration.
The International Student Merit Scholarships are awarded to international students who are entering their first year of a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at TMU in the Fall or Winter term and demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to volunteer work and extracurricular activities, and leadership skills. A minimum 85%/A or equivalent final admission average is required for consideration.
